Recent Updates and News
Due to the changing nature of eBay, it is often necessary for us to release updates for AuctionIntelligence in order to
compensate for new HTML structures. Also, when we know about changes in advance that will affect AuctionIntelligence,
we will post information on this page to let users know how to deal with the situation.
If AuctionIntelligence ever seems to slow down, not retrieve data correctly, or show
any other abnormal signs, please check this page for updates that will fix the problem.

Optional Application Update
date: 09 July 2008 | version: 1.7.3111
|
|
Just a couple of days ago, eBay made some pretty major changes to eBay UK (ebay.co.uk) search results. With this update, AI will once again start downloading more than 100-200 results for a search, and will also login to the eBay UK site correctly.
|
 |
- Current users: you can start AuctionIntelligence and choose Help | Download Newest Version of AuctionIntelligence or you can download and install AISetup.exe.
|
| | |

| Before updating AuctionIntelligence, it is strongly advised to backup your existing database using File | Backup and Restore | Backup database. Additionally, if you already have AuctionIntelligence installed, do not install MSDE/SQL Express again, as doing so will overwrite your database. |
|
- To install this update if you do not already have AuctionIntelligence installed, download and install AISetupMSDE.exe.
For more installation information, please see the README file included in the above self-extracting EXE files.

Required Application Update
date: 20 Nov 2007 | version: 1.7.2878
|
|
With this update, AI should be 'closer' to back to normal. We know it took a while, but coming up with a solution to the recent eBay updates was not easy, and actually resulted in a trade-off on our part. With this update, AI should start getting quite a bit more than the 200 or so listings for a search that it has been getting over the past couple of months - but it still won't get everything. Instead, it will download an analyze all of the "normal" auctions and "single quantity fixed price" listings, but it will not download dutch or multiple-quantity fixed price listings. Our testing shows that generally this means AI analyzes somewhere between 60 and 95% of all items returned for a search, but of course, your mileage may vary (some sellers only use multiple-quantity fixed price listings for instance). Hope you enjoy the update.

Slow searching - AI hanging
date: 05 Sep 2007 | version: All
|
|
We've continued to work on the parsing issues affecting AI due to eBay's recent changes, and we're a couple of steps closer, but we're not there yet (and not quite ready to share findings - hopefully that happens tomorrow). Sorry for the inconvenience that this may be causing you in your analysis.

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 03 Sep 2007 | version: All
|
|
08:19 PST - We've released an automatic parsing update that should fix the problems folks are seeing. It looks like some of the more obscure auction types have different HTML than in the past - for example - multple quantity fixed price listings that are listed as "private." Hopefully we've got those sorted now, and everything should be back to normal (and even a little faster than normal). To get this update, please restart AuctionIntelligence and run your searches again. The update will be downloaded automatically.
|
 |
- Current users: Please restart AuctionIntelligence. This update will automatically be downloaded the next time AuctionIntelligence attempts a search after being restarted.
- To install this update if you do not already have AuctionIntelligence installed, download and install AISetupMSDE.exe.
For more installation information, please see the README file included in the above self-extracting EXE files.

Slow searching - AI hanging
date: 03 Sep 2007 | version: All
|
|
07:34 PST -
Looks like certain auctions are causing the latest update to AI to hang. We're working on the issue now (likely some HTML changes that our testing didn't initially uncover) and will get another update released ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Required Application Update
date: 02 Sep 2007 | version: 1.7.2801
|
|
As we mentioned last week, eBay appears to be in the midst of their annual summer HTML update (we assume they do this in the summer because it is the 'slowest' time on the site). Our updates of last week fixed most of the problems that were introduced with the latest round of changes, but not all of them - specifically, dutch auctions (though not multiple quantity fixed price items). The fix we are releasing today should make AI work with dutch auctions again, as well as fix several other bugs in the program that we've been working on. As always, if you find any problems, let us know using the online support form. Please note that due to some of the configuration changes that were necessary in this version, it is a required update for all AuctionIntelligence users. Additionally, since this is our first required update in two years, if you have not updated AI for a while, you may be required to also update to the Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime. If this is necessary, AI will prompt you to install .NET during AI setup (automatically). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause - we know that it's a large download.
This update includes the following:
-
Bug Fix: Searches no longer retrieve bid information for dutch auctions
-
Bug Fix: AuctionIntelligence logging not working properly after upgrading to .NET 2.0
-
New Feature: Added support for restoring databases to specific locations (allows moving databases to dedicated drives)
-
Enhanced: Updated Web browser control to use a more robust version of the control
-
Bug Fix: Updated AI to work seamlessly on 64bit Windows Vista in addition to 32 bit, with a single installation
-
Bug Fix: AuctionIntelligence not closing properly (process left running) after updating to .NET 2.0
-
Bug Fix: Some dialog layouts don't look right after update to .NET 2.0 (text truncated)
-
New Feature: Added ability to compress the AuctionIntelligence database (File | Compress Database) in order to save disk space
|
 |
- Current users: you can start AuctionIntelligence and choose Help | Download Newest Version of AuctionIntelligence or you can download and install AISetup.exe.
|

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 31 Aug 2007 | version: All
|
|
Many of the changes that were made to the US (eBay.com) site earlier in the week were made across the international sites supported by AI yesterday. It took us much of the day yesterday but as of now (2:08 am), we've updated AI to work with those changes - hopefully the last of the big changes coming this summer by eBay. Thanks for your patience while we deal with these annual updates that are being made.

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 28 Aug 2007 | version: All
|

eBay looks to be in the middle of a pretty major update to the HTML on the eBay.com web site. They've made several changes to the way search results, item pages, and bid history pages are displayed in the last couple of days. We've updated AI as quickly as possible as these changes were made, and everything appears to be working normally now. Please do let us know via our support form however if you are seeing certain searches or item numbers not being parsed correctly, so we can get it resolved ASAP.

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 16 Jul 2007 | version: All
|

eBay recently changed the HTML for determining the title, end date, and several other key details of an item on the eBay UK (eBay.co.uk) site. This caused AuctionIntelligence to appear to download all of the items for your search, but not actually save them to the database. That should now be fixed.
If you've had this problem, please select the searches that you've run, choose Edit | Clear failed downloads, restart AI, and re-run your searches. All of your items should be downloaded correctly (and even a little faster) now.

AuctionIntelligence Update for Vista
date: 23 Apr 2007 | version: All
|
|
A quick note for everyone - we'll soon be releasing an updated version of AuctionIntelligence that includes Windows Vista support. This change brings with it several updates that we feel like we've done a good job of testing, but could still be areas where there are some bugs that will affect some users, so we wanted to make you aware of them:
- Updated .NET Framework - the new version of AuctionIntelligence uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (the old version used the 1.1 version). This should allow us to see some performance improvements over time, and shouldn't cause any backwards compatibility issues, but please do submit any error reports that you are getting so we can take a look.
- Updated database for NEW installations - For any new installations of AI (not upgrades), AI will now install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express instead of MSDE 2000. SQL Express is simply the updated version of MSDE, so we don't envision any compatibility issues. By using SQL Express, we can support AI on Windows Vista, where MSDE is not supported by Microsoft.
If you are interested in trying out the AuctionIntelligence beta with these features, we encourage you to shoot us an email and we'll be happy to send you a link to the download.

Optional Application Update
date: 08 Feb 2007 | version: 1.6.2595
|
|
We've accumulated a few important bug fixes and user requests, so it's time to release an update. As always, feedback and requests are welcome.
This update includes the following:
-
USER REQUEST: Added the "Quantity Sold" to the Raw Search Results, and to the PivotTable report, even when showing all items so that sell-through comparisons for a single auction can be made
-
BUG: TotalBidAmount on the summary report was (slightly) incorrectly calculated, and has been fixed
-
NEW: Updated the search engine to use the new eBay search format, allow 200,000 item searches, even for title searches
-
NEW: Improved performance of Cleanup Results tab (by approx 10x)
-
NEW: Added support for Proxy Servers to AuctionIntelligence, so it should now work on some networks (businesses usually) that are behind a proxy
-
BUG: The Sell-through rate on the Category report, and in Excel was not shown as a percentage. Now it is.

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 09 Jan 2007 | version: All
|
|
eBay recently changed the HTML for determining the number of bids on an item. In very specific cases (the item was a Single or Multiple Qty Fixed Price Item AND the high bidders ID started with a number) this could cause AI to use the number from the buyers ID as the number of bids instead of the actual number of bids. That should now be fixed.
If you've got auctions with incorrect information, please delete them in the Cleanup Results tab, and then rerun the search to download the auctions again. (To easily find these auctions, sort the Cleanup Results tab by Bids and look for obviously high numbers. Then, to select multiple items at a time, hold down Ctrl or Shift as you click on the items in the Cleanup Results list)

Automatic Parsing Update
date: 25 Dec 2006 | version: All

A change in eBay's search format caused AuctionIntelligence to only download up to 10,000 items per search at a time (even if the user chose 20,000 in the search parameters). This update should address that situation so that the correct number of items are downloaded. Thanks to DK7 for bringing this to our attention.
Merry Christmas from the AI team!
